Happy Friyay! We’re looking forward to whipping out fall sweaters, but the warm weather is making us turn down the thermostat. If we turn it down enough, maybe we can get away with a flannel…?

Korinn Lloyd loved her job as a cast member working at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom Park—she said so in a TikTok following her termination from the most magical place on Earth.
Lloyd was dismissed from her paid internship with the Disney college program after allegedly being rude to some park guests. In the now viral interaction, Lloyd appears to ask the guests to take their business to another souvenir cart because they were making her uncomfortable. A guest can then be heard threatening to “smash” everything on her cart, to which Lloyd replied, “You can, please smash it,” before eventually walking away. Many have come to Lloyd’s defense, condemning the company for letting her go.
“As a former cast member who was also let down by the company. You are valid and you are appreciated,” a user named Caroline commented on Lloyd’s TikTok. “The lack of respect towards cast members is sad.”
Disney—who did not respond to HR Brew’s requests for comment—has a reputation for going above and beyond for its park guests. But is a “customer is always right” mantra good for employees and, ultimately, an organization’s retention and recruitment strategies?

Superstore/NBC via Giphy
You may know The Office’s Michael Scott, but do you know Superstore’s Glenn Sturgis? Both are equally comical managers in a workplace TV series who find themselves in precarious situations with coworkers.
NBC’s Superstore is set in a megastore where Sturgis is the general manager. In season four, when two of his employees have a public breakup, he gathers his team in the breakroom for a toxic workplace meeting that goes off the rails and, ultimately, creates a more toxic situation.
During times like these, HR pros can step in to train team leaders to address (and even avoid) toxicity in the workplace.
Train role models. J. Cole had “No Role Modelz,” but that doesn’t mean managers have to follow suit, especially with HR’s help.

They say the gym grind pays off, and in the case of one corporate health and wellness platform, it certainly seems that way.
Gympass announced in August that it raised $85 million in Series F funding. The deal, which closed in two and a half weeks, was led by EQT Growth and values the company at $2.4 billion.
The announcement comes amid a belt tightening across the venture capital space. Many companies, especially in HR tech, are finding it harder to secure funds.
Zoom out. The funding is a bet that investing in programs and benefits that offer employees a chance to improve their health will reap benefits for both the workforce and the company.
