Happy Thursday, HR pros. Summer weather is nearly upon us, and Memorial Day weekend is around the corner. If your employees haven’t already requested PTO, they might decide to do some “quiet vacationing” over the next few days, i.e., keep up appearances on Slack without really working. We’re not sure what your CEO would think of this practice, but Ferris Bueller might remind us that life moves pretty fast…if you don’t stop and look up from your laptop once in a while, you could miss it.

Aconso, a document management software company headquartered in Munich, Germany, is expanding into the US market.
The company is starting with just two US customers, but hopes one-third of its recurring revenue will come from new US customers within the next 18 months, CEO Ulrich Jaenicke said in his first interview with a US media outlet.
Jaenicke said he believes Aconso’s user-friendly interface, coupled with a new solution focused on documents that are compliant with Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) noncompete ban, will help the German company stand out in a crowded market.

Employers that rely on temporary farmworkers with H-2A visas will have to comply with an enhanced set of protections for these employees starting June 28.
The protections are detailed in a final rule announced by the Department of Labor (DOL) on April 26. The H-2A program allows employers to bring foreign workers into the US to fill temporary agricultural jobs for up to 10 months, provided they can demonstrate efforts to recruit US workers weren’t successful. These workers are entitled to earn a state minimum wage, as well as receive housing and transportation through their employer.
More employers have grown to rely on H-2A workers in recent decades.

As a high school junior, Kendyl Skinner worked as a hostess at Texas Roadhouse. It was a fast-paced environment, and she was struggling with undiagnosed ADHD.
But working in the hustle and bustle of the service industry actually helped Skinner learn to manage her ADHD symptoms, she told HR Brew. “The job that I was doing at the time actually suited me so well because there was so much multitasking…it was never boring,” said Skinner, now head of HR at Columbus-based advertising company Orange Barrel Media. She shared with HR Brew how these multitasking skills helped her HR career.
