Employees are feeling insecure, and L&D programs aren’t helping.
Some 41% of full-time employees—across the US, UK, Germany, and India—report feeling a lack of job security due to their skills gaps, and just 25% think their company’s L&D programs are helping them fill their gaps, according to a survey by e-learning platform Skillsoft released last month. After leadership skills, employees cited AI among the skills they feel are most critical in the workplace.
“Generative AI comes in, and there’s all of this initial excitement. Everybody’s dying to get their hands on it and figure out how to use it, and then I think you get to a bit of a plateau,” Ciara Harrington, Skillsoft’s chief people officer (CPO), told HR Brew. “We’ve all learned the initial stages of it, but we still don’t really know right [now] what it means for the future of work and for the future of all of our jobs.”
People leaders, she said, need to change how they’re helping employees learn new skills. She shared advice for how to get started.

Ovia Health, a family health benefits platform owned by Labcorp, recently announced it’s adding a postpartum care program to its platform.
Starting in October, patients that receive Ovia through their employer or health plan will be able to access a 12-month program that targets a range of potential issues that can arise during the postpartum period, according to a Sept. 18 announcement. The new offerings will be available to Ovia members at no additional cost, according to Leslie Saltzman, chief medical officer.
Why postpartum benefits? New mothers are particularly vulnerable to health complications during the period after they give birth, Saltzman told HR Brew. Some two-thirds of pregnancy-related deaths in the US occur during the postpartum period, according to an estimate from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
How the program will work. Ovia members who are postpartum will be automatically enrolled in the new year-long program, which will be personalized based on conditions such as whether a patient had a C-section, or developed gestational diabetes, for example. Members will have the ability to report their symptoms, and the Ovia app will flag any issues that merit further consultation with a healthcare provider, she said.

In the struggle to recruit more accounting and finance people among a limited pool of young talent, it pays (literally, in this case, for students) to widen that pool as much as possible.
That’s the big idea behind a new accounting apprenticeship program that AICPA and CIMA recently launched.
The Registered Apprenticeship for Accounting and Finance Associate gives participants, who may be as young as 16, an accelerated entry point into the accounting world, according to a news release. It’s also a lead-in to the existing Registered Apprenticeship for Finance Business Partners Program, where apprentices ultimately earn the CGMA certification for management accounting.
The program is “widening the pipeline of potential candidates” in accounting, according to Tom Hood, EVP of business engagement and growth at AICPA and CIMA.
