Working through a windfall

When SpaceX went public on June 12, some 4,400 employees were expected to become millionaires, according to an analysis shared on X by the founder of Hill Markets, an investment platform.

Now that SpaceX has officially debuted with the biggest IPO in history, employees that have amassed equity in the company over the years have to figure out what to do with shares worth millions of dollars.

Employers can offer a variety of benefits to support workers with equity after a major liquidity event like this, sources told us. In addition to helping employees manage a windfall of new wealth, HR teams have to consider how to retain these workers, as well.

Meta has paused a controversial employee monitoring program after it discovered the program left potentially sensitive information, collected by employee hardware, accessible to all Meta employees.

Meta’s Model Capability Initiative (MCI) left transcriptions, employee conversations, and performance data accessible inside the company, first reported by Business Insider. And, according to Quartz, one employee’s personal tax and medical records.

The discovery represented an unfortunate confirmation of some Meta employees’ fears expressed in the wake of the program’s launch in April. Meta announced the initiative to support development of Meta’s AI modeling, collecting employee keystrokes, mouse activities and clicks, and even occasional screenshots as training data.

The Business of Benefits

The print automation company Vasion is currently “prioritizing growth,” its chief people officer, Melissa Knotts said. This growth “depends on a strong employee base, particularly managers.”

In order to better support the company’s growing employee population, Vasion recently added mental health benefits from the platform Modern Health to its total rewards package. All of Vasion’s 425 employees now have access to six coaching and six therapy sessions, in addition to offerings such as community circles and enhanced employee assistance programs, she said.

Knotts said her team wanted to invest in an offering that the entire global workforce could take advantage of, regardless of location—with specific support for managers. While Vasion is headquartered in St. George, Utah, it has offices in Europe and Australia, as well.
