AI may soon be more popular than a Mountie eating a BeaverTail. At least, that’s according to a June survey from KPMG Canada.

Where in the world? While the use of Generative AI at work has been at the tip of nearly everyone’s tongues, workers in Canada may be putting it to use. KPMG Canada’s Generative AI Adoption Index surveyed more than 5,000 Canadians and found that while just 20% of respondents are using generative AI, 81% of users believe it will benefit certain industries moving forward.

When examining workers using the technology, 67% said it allows them to take on additional work, while 65% believe it’s essential for managing the work on their plates. Canadians appear to be pretty forthcoming about using the tools too, as 64% say their bosses are in the know.

However, the survey found that just 16% of employers have specific policies guiding workers on when and how they’re allowed to use generative AI.

“Implementing a responsible AI framework—which includes both policies and tools that identify and mitigate risks with AI output—can help protect against misuse of this powerful technology,” Ven Adamov, co-leader of KPMG Canada’s responsible AI framework, said in a press release.

Satellite view. It appears Canadians aren’t the only ones eager to better their workdays with this emerging technology. Workers in the US, Australia, and the UK believe they’re saving around five hours per week on average thanks to generative AI, according to a recent Salesforce survey.

While the US sadly doesn’t have access to BeaverTails, both the US and Canadian HR leaders might want to stay abreast of the rapid adoption of generative AI by employees.
