Automation in hiring is nothing new, but ChatGPT proved there are many ways generative AI can transform the way we do everything…including recruiting and hiring.

HR Brew asked TA and HR pros for their takes on how AI, and specifically generative AI, may impact the talent acquisition landscape in the coming year.

Jennifer Shappley, VP of talent, LinkedIn

One of the biggest changes that generative AI will do for talent acquisition teams is how it will help us in our jobs. Today, recruiters spend a large amount of time running searches and sending emails, and AI is going to help remove some of the drudgery and make those activities more efficient so that we can focus on the most strategic work. In fact, our recent data even found that 80% of global HR professionals believe that AI will be a tool to help them with their work over the next five years.

Roz Francuz-Harris, VP of talent acquisition, Zillow

AI has the capability to make talent acquisition processes more effective and efficient, freeing up valuable time for sourcers, recruiters, and other HR professionals to focus on what matters: building relationships and developing talent strategy. However, the talent community cannot utilize AI to its full potential until we dismantle the fear and switch our perspective to view it as a helpful tool to make us more efficient. On my team, we’ve gamified AI with a “prompt-a-thon” to show how exciting and fun the technology is to use. In the new year, I hope to see more companies take this approach to empower employees to embrace and use AI to their advantage—only then can we unlock its full potential for talent acquisition.

I think instead of resumes, a lot of these [AI-powered] quick screening tools are going to be used…It’s simply a much better data point to look at relative to a resume. I think another thing is right now, every time you mention “GPT” for something that’s very human, which the interview process [is], people jump and there’s a very, very large stigma toward it…But I do think that’s going to change probably sometime in 2024, and even right now that’s started to change a bit.
